Liberty University is the largest non-profit private university in the United States, the largest college in Virginia, and the seventh largest four-year university in the country. Located in Lynchburg, Virginia, overlooking the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Liberty is widely known for its state-of-the-art facilities and progressive educational programs.
The University was embarking on developing a new medical school building and program and was operating in a condensed timeframe to build and up fit a new 144,000 square foot building, hire requisite staff, develop programming, and market and recruit its first group of medical students. The University was seeking a partner to assist with procuring medical related equipment that would be used in educating its students in a hands-on and active learning capacity. The facility would include an expansive Standardized Patient and Simulation Center, extensive facilities for small group and team learning activities, medical library, research laboratories, two clinical/osteopathic manipulative medicine laboratories totaling, state of the art anatomy laboratory along with auditoriums and classrooms and an extensively equipped medical clinic containing 24 examination rooms, procedures and diagnostic facilities.
WR-Martin was retained by the University to source and procure fixtures, equipment, and supplies that would be used for training the students and supporting the medical program. The equipment that was to be sourced ranged from microscopes, examinations tables, surgical equipment, EKGs, embalming tables, tongue depressors, and walk-in cadaver refrigeration to cutting edge simulation equipment. The project involved working closely with the Dean of the College responsible for launching the medical program and the University’s sourcing group to outline all of the products that would be needed, competitively source items to fulfill the needs and initiate the purchase order process to procure the products.
Through this engagement WR-Martin sourced over 320 unique medical related fixtures, equipment and supplies valued at more than $4.5 million to support the University’s new medical program and facility.
